'Home is...' Artist in Residency / Workshops
While there is quite a lot of flexibility in this project, both in what I am making myself, residency proposals and workshops, what I have put here are my suggestions for how residencies may work. I am very interested in residency programs and workshops as they are a way of interacting with and further hearing from others. I think it is a topic that can be very helpful in developing multiculturalism and understanding as learning about each other always helps us to see each us as human.
If you are interested in having me come to run any sort of residency or workshop but what I have proposed isn't quite what you were looking for, feel free to contact me anyway as I'd be happy to look at drawing up something that would suit you.
Artist in Residency for schools (or community groups)
Each residency will be developed in consultation with you to accomodate your schools / groups specifications. I am interested in working with small or large groups and with either primary or high school age students.
I would be very happy to work with you to develop a program that fits into your schools culture and that could work alongside other areas of education and school life. It may be suitable to have this program run alongside a similar topic in english for instance.
This can be adapted to suit a number of different specific themes within this broader topic. For example; multiculturalism, homelessness, refugee / migration.
Proposed artist focus:
- the use of mixed media
- possibly focusing on the use of recycled and up-cycled materials and / or natural materials depending on the specifics of the chosen overall project.
Age range and interaction:
- Can be adapted to suit any school age range.
- Can be adapted to suit individual classes or a broader community art project.
- Alternatively I could come in as an artist within your community to develop an artwork specifically from that experience. This may work well with a community art project.
- A combination of the above.
Proposed thematic focus and suggestions:
To explore and encourage discussion and sharing about the many different types of homes and home situations within the school / broader community.
Example: A large community project could consist of inviting students to contribute and item / photo to a larger installation artwork. The focus could be on the use of up-cycled / recycled / found objects.
- Refugee / Migration
To explore and encourage discussion around these topics and in relation to the school and / or broader community.
- Historical / Worldwide
To learn about and explore historical homes and / or homes of other countries.
Example: This could include a mixed media collage project of exploring old photos and records of homes in the area and creating artwork from them.
Explore the homes of animals. Learn about and explore curious, nests and caves and those who live in them.
Example: make burrows and nests.
- Imaginative / Play
At this stage I have a less strutted idea around this as there is a lot of scope for the development of imagination and play around this topic that could be developed to suit your needs.
If you are interested or have any questions or any suggestions, then please get in touch as I'd love to have a chat.
