Reminisence & Life Writing
Seminars
As we age, some of us think about writing down some of the stories of our life. Or maybe you have older relatives, and you would like them to write down some of their life stories. There is also a lot of research that advocates for the benefits of participating in reminiscence activities, including for those with early stages dementia.
However, the actual process of starting may feel a little overwhelming; where do we start? What do we include?
The reason for reminiscence and life writing varies and it is important to establish why you want to engage so that you can choose an approach that will help you reach your desired goals.
To help consider the many aspects of reminiscence and life writing, Karly draws directly from her PhD research and thesis and her work as in the leisure and health sector in aged, presenting an introductory seminar that looks at the concepts and variety in approaches to reminiscence and life writing, highlights the possible outcomes and benefits, identifies pros and cons of various methods, and considers the suitability of approaches for individuals, groups or in aged care settings. She then provides an overview of how individuals or groups may like to begin and potential resources to assist you in following your chosen method.
This workshop can vary in length and so the depth of information covered. This seminar may be helpful for individuals, families or those working in residential aged care who might be considering how to incorporate biography writing into their programs.
